Any advice for someone writing a screenplay ?!

Question:

Any advice for someone writing a screenplay ?

While out one night i got an idea for a story i thought was quite good. Since then i've decided instead of just leaving it at what i thought it was a good idea, i would try writing it out and see if i can do it. I know it wont get made or anything but i like doing things like this. Any advice ?

Answers:

There are lots of good books out there on the subject of writing screenplays. They all pretty much cover the same territory, so if you read two or three of them, and feel you understand the basic structure, that should get you good-to-go. Also, read actually screenplays - in screenplay format, if you can - to get a better understanding of how they're constructed.

It's true that it's 10 % inspiration and 90% perspiration. Be ready to face doubts and frustrations, and work through them. Most screenwriters will tell you that it's relatively easy to come up with a terrific beginning and terrific ending, but it can be torture trying to keep that very long "middle" interesting. A strong outline will help you.

Good luck!
