In the Transformers Movie, why does the Cube convert the machines into desepticons?

Since I'm not 100% english speaker... maybe I lost myself in mental translations.

Because that's what it does. They don't explain why in the film, it just turns machines into intelligent robots.

One of the prequel comics explains that it was also what kept their home planet Cybertron alive, therefore its gives life to things.
