Why do films come out in America first?!

Why do films come out in America first?
Even foreign independent films come out in the cinemas in the US before they are screened in their country of origin. Is it because Americans opinions matter more or because they are the center of civilization, I mean the aliens always attack you guys first. :)

Most movies come out in asia first. for example Japan and The Phillipines got spiderman 3 like a WEEK before we did.
