the final Mad Max movie anytime soon. I heard a year or so ago they were going to start filming. But, then I haven't heard anything else.

I found some information about Mad Max 4: Fury Road
Although the project was given the green light for a $100 million USD budget, Fury Road has been in hiatus due to security concerns related to trying to film in Africa, because the United States and many other countries have tightened travel and shipping restrictions.
Mel Gibson said that he does not wish to work on a "Mad Max" film, not because he doesn't like the series, but because he doesn't consider himself physically able to play Max anymore. He even joked, saying that the movie would be called "Fat Max".
Channel 10 news in Australia, has stated that George Miller is definitely making another Mad Max film, he has stated he wants a hollywood unknown to take the role of Max Rockatansky, it is still unknown if the movie will be a prequel or a continuation of the original series, there has been some rumours of a reboot. Miller again confirmed his desire to make another Mad Max at the 2007 Aurora film maker initiative, however he did say he thought Mel Gibson would not be interested in the film because he was too old.
The previous movies were awesome (Especially Road Warrior). It would be a little weird seeing someone else playing Max though.
