What did people think of Freedom Writers?!
Question:
What did people think of Freedom Writers?
I normally hate movies like that - where white people are bad, and I feel that it only perpetuates the divides. BUT, I do have a Jewish heritage and I have always noticed that the holocaust never seems to be seen in the same light as the plight of other races (slavery, etc) - even though they are fundamentally about the same thing, that is, ignorance and inequality. So, I actually really liked Freedom Writers because it gave a completely different perspective about it all, and united all the kids - I was originally concerned that the white boy would be marginalised all the way through, simply for being a white boy in a predominantly mixed race school. Like, just because he's white he's never experienced gun crime, which in a climate like that, is highly unlikely. He wouldn't be sheltered from it. But, it was good. It was equal.

joe, you have a point, but it doesn't matter if it's 100 or 10 years. If you look at that way, the holocaust was more intensive - it was with the intent of murder, whereas slavery wasn't necessarily intent on murder. Both equally horrific though.
Answers:
It was better than I thought it would be. There have been dozens of other similar films ("Dangerous Minds" for example), but I thought "Freedom Writers" managed to carve out its own niche.
