I see lists all over the place of top grossing movies, top-50, top-100, and I am usually quite surprised to see certain movies on them, until I think about the fact that a movie released in 1997 (Titanic) made $601 million (Average ticket price = $4.59) is a heck of a lot less impressive than the fact that a movie released in 1977 (Star Wars; Average ticket price = $2.23) made $461 million. Doing the math, Star Wars made almost 40% more money taking into consideration the cost of the ticket.
