What was the point of the prophecy in harry potter and the order of the phoniex?!

Question:

What was the point of the prophecy in harry potter and the order of the phoniex?

Answers:

The prophesy is the "weapon" that they refer that Voldemort didn't have last time. Personally, I don't see how it is all that valuable. Originally, Voldemort heard about the prophesy that had been made that a young boy, who was born in July, would be his demise. Shortly after, he ASSUMED it was talking about Harry (it could have also been Neville who was also born in July) and went to kill him and his parents. However, the books says that Voldemort chose it to be Harry by attempting to kill him and by doing so instilled Harry with everything he needed to eventually defeat Voldemort. It does also say that "none can live with the other survives" meaning that one, or both, of them will die. It's kind of confusing--you should pickup the book or I can clarify it a bit more.
