Why is it that the UK has to wait weeks after a USA film or game release before it's released here?

I just noticed that the UK release date of transformers is 23 days after the USA release. Even finland and Holland get it before us!Why?Surely there's more work to be done for non-English speaking countries.

Many reasons. For a video game, as the UK shares the same region as the whole of Europe it usually has to wait until the game is translated. As for a movie, the translation issues don't have to apply but the distributor may delay it to give it the best chance for success. For example, if Transformers came out the same time in the UK as everywhere else it would face stiff competition with a little known film called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
