In the movie 1408 what's happened at the very end scene (when his daughter was on the recorder)? I don't get it! please explain to me in short, did he get out of the room? whats happened?

He got out because he lasted longer than an hour and he burned the room from the inside. (Remember the writing on the wall that said "burn me down?")
The tape recording of his daughter proved that what happened was real, not a hallucination.
