Why did the Camaro hit the yellow VW Beetle?

I haven't seen the film yet, but my guess would be that it was a joke because VW wouldn't let director Michael Bay use the Beetle as Bumblebee in the film.
In the original cartoon, Bumblebee was a yellow Beetle.
VW's reason for not allowing the Beetle to be used was that they didn't want their brand to be associated with violence, even if it was fantasy violence between giant alien robots.
