Okay. I have been researching about this Cloverfield movie.
It has many many connections to the Video Game Oldie Rampage, like 1. IN the trailer, the guy that asked Rob to check upstairs had a slusho shirt on. Not only is Slusho a drink on a show named Alias but it also has its own website. If you check the history on this particular website, it says that whoever drinks Slusho grows. Now in Rampage, these people drank "SCUM" and made them grow and destroy stuff. 2, In that website, the person who is making ROB drink this cup, has a slusho shirt on also.

This one is the most.. meh..
If you look carefully, the place where rob is, is at 401 BroadWay. Now if you look more carefully, the first explosion happened near a tall building, if you look in google earth, there is no tall building other than the "woolworth" building. So if u keep watching it. The first time it exploded it SHOULDVE stayed exploded. but no, if you keep watching it, the building is still there unharmed, and not only that, they get very closer to the building. I don't know what this means, its just probably a mess up or thinking too much.

It cant be godzilla because they dont have the rights to godzilla.
It would make sense if this kthulu whatever guy was the monster because the statue of liberty has its own island right? And that mean the monster would be airborne or would be able to swim.
