Name of a film please similar to Sniper ?

i am trying to find the name for this movie late 1980's-90's about a new recruit (believe he is a sniper or similar) I remember a american army unit is watching out for him in this field and he is slowly working his way to the front of them (to prove himself) without them finding him. one guy holds up a burger wrapper he finds and shouts 'he's had lunch here!' after a while they give up because they cannot find him, the captain at the front shouts out that they give up or whatever, and this guy just jumps up right in front of him. he then goes on to do the actual mission.

Not an advert, the burgers name on the wrapper wasn't advertised just held up.

It wasnt a sniper movie it is with Harrison Ford, its one of the Tom Clancy movies where Ford is Jack Ryan. Clear and Present Danger I believe.
