I went to see transformers last weekend and in the previews of the coming movies , they show a trailer of an noname movie that was about some people having a party an suddenly something start falling from the sky destroying some buildings, I wonder was it about aliens? it will be on screen next january.

Yes, the movie is due to be called Cloverfield, and produced by JJ Abrams (of LOST fame). They are trying to build up a sort of buzz about the film, like Blair Witch Project.
