1408 (spoilers) On ending?

I am confused about the ending of the movie. Was he really out of the room or was his wife also in the room too. I thought that he would always be in the room even if he got out. Just want your opinion.

Sorry I am just confused about it. I though he wouldn't get out ever what if he just imagined he was home. who sent him the post card that said not to enter room 1408. was the hotel manager bad or neither.
