What is the best movie you've ever seen and why?
No reason, really. Just wondering what kinds of things other people like.

TRON (1982)
it wasnt a great success in the box office, but it would become a milestone in movie making technology.
This was made during the days of Star Wars but unlike those movies it was done totaly by computer. The Whole movie was shot on a black background.
Every light, Effect, set, everything, was made by computer.
Now that might not sound like much but you have to realize something. In 1982 there was not a monitor that could handle the graphics needed to view these things being built. The programers had to go on fate and would not be able to test their programs until it was on film.
Here's something funny.
While Disney owns TRON, it was a sub company who made it. Disney refused to use their drawers to make it. They did not believe that computer drawing was worth the effort.
However 20+ years later (sometime in the last few years) Disney has dropped hand drawn movies for computer animation.
Kind of Ironic.
