What did you think of "Meet Joe Black"?!

Question:

What did you think of "Meet Joe Black"?

Aside from the tedious overuse of protracted "dramatic" pauses? For me, this is another movie that could have been so much better, with the same actors (Anthony Hopkins is a treasure) and material, but a different director and much better writing. Maybe it was another case of urgency to get the movie "in the can and out the door."

If it was up to me, I'd have done much more with "Death's" transition from indifferent harvester of souls to compassionate entity.

In the original, "Death Takes a Holiday", Death did take a holiday: all the while he was in human form, no one died. In "Joe Black," the Jamaican woman's torment reminded me of Jason Alexander's "Death" character in the "Twilight Zone" episode where people languished in agony while "Death" was "on hiatus."

I hope someone makes another stab at this movie, giving it the time and treatment it deserves to be a classic. Do remakes of so-so movies every become classics, I wonder?

What would you do differently?

Answers:

I would not make the move in the first place, I was so bored, I didn't even see the whole thing!
