Thanks TheGuru, but please tell me your favorite and least favorite book, your answer left me in the same spot as before lol I would recommend Carrie. It's not my favourite Stephen King book but it really sent a chill up a spine - even though I knew what was coming! I was in the same situation as you, I saw all the movies before I read the books and I found that huge chunks of Carrie were left from the movie. So, yeah, I'd recommend Carrie.

My favourite book is The Shining just because..well, it's so perfect. I couldn't sleep after reading it! I enjoyed both the movie and book which is a rare occurance as I normally hate one or the other. I didn't like reading Misery. It just didn't get me interested. Don't take my word for it though - I only got halfway through it. I would suggest you start with any of his books where you enjoyed the movie. The books only make it more interesting because it seems to me there is more detail. I've been reading his books for years....they're the only ones I have found that can really put a 'scare' in me! I am a lover of Stephen King's movies and books. I would recommend reading Nightmares and Dreamscapes, The Shining, Thinner and Misery.

My least favorites are the Dark Tower series. I just can't seem to get into them. The Dead Zone book was WAY better than the movie. The Stand was a great book but I think maybe it might be a little dated - lots of references to trends of the 70's. I just finished the Shining. Classic King. Flows really well and has lots of tense moments. Needful Things is also a good second option and not made into a movie so will be completely new to you.

I'm not a fan of Four Minutes Past Midnight. Four brilliant short stories but it just left you feeling they should have been full length novels. Just too short! I liked Needful Things--it was an easy read and one of his more humorous books by far. favourite book it and the shinning least fav book none the book way better than the movies do u know stephen king plays cameos in all his movie hes in carrie etc The books are way better than the movies. Way scarier. I started reading The Stand and actually had to stop reading it because it freaked me out. The book Carrie is great. I read the book and then saw the movie and was very disappointed. My favorite books are It (scared the crap out of me!) and Rose Madder. Rose Madder had kind of a "girl power" twist and was still scary. Pet Cemetary was also a real good one. I have the Diary of Ellen Rimbaur, My Life At Rose Red. Although he did not necessary write the book, he did do the movie, which is one of my favorite scary movies. It's a fantastic book, and I got so swept up in reading it, that it only took me about 2-3 days to read it.
