Why did Leia have memories of her mother?!

Question:

Why did Leia have memories of her mother?

And Luke Skywalker didn't? Is there any explanation for that?

Answers: That is one of the many plot holes that Lucas had in the finishing of Episode 3. Many fans questioned this and there is still no answer to b found. There are many theories out there but none are solid enough to base an argument on. Lets just hope that the filler for Ep 3 and 4 will explain something. who knows? my theory is that it was her Force ability that enabled her to take thoughts from her mother or remember her. idk. nothing is solid enough. Star Wars Fanboy Leia was older and Luke was too young to remember. It bugs me every time she says that too, since they're twins. I just always assume she's talking about Jimmy Smits' wife.

Otherwise, you have to go with hoping for filler, as the other poster said. No explanation that I know of. And I'm fairly certain that since Padme died in Episode III, there's no way anything produced between III and IV could explain this mystery. This isn't a "plot hole" it is simply an ambiguity. Senator Bail Organa took Leia to Alderaan where he raised her as his own. He and his wife made it seem as though she had been pregnant in order to keep any suspicions neutralized. Unfortunately, Bail's wife died when Leia was either four or five, which is why Leia remembers her "mother". I saw this information in one of the old Star Wars RPG supplements that had extensive timelines in them and bios of each character. Luke had always been raised as a nephew, and had been told his parents died in an Imperial incident. This is why Ben's "news" that Luke's father was killed by Vader was such a surprise.
