What's the best order to watch Star Wars in?!

Question:

What's the best order to watch Star Wars in?

I love Stars Wars....problem with me is I saw Phantom of the Menace first then Revenge of the Sith, after watching Revenge of the Sith that made me want to watch them all. So I watched 1 - 6 and I have loved it since. My boyfriend and I got the Blockbuster Total Access and we have seen just about everything so I suggested getting Star Wars..at first it was OH NO!!! But over the past few weeks I talked him into it. Problem is I don't know what order to get them in. Some say 1 - 6 others say 4,5,6 then 1,2,3 but I want him to really get the picture and enjoy it. He has never seen any of them. Please tell me the best way to order them? Thanks.

Answers: Without a doubt, 1 through 6, in that order. You could say that nothing in 1 to 3 is mentioned in 4 to 6, as some have. Not entirely true. Yes, you can watch 4 to 6 on their own, and it will make sense, but if you watch 1 to 3 first, it gives the things in 4 to 6 more meaning. For example - it now makes sense that R2 knew where everything was on Tattooine, and who everyone was, and why 3PO didn't. There are lots of other things, but I have watched them in 1-6 order twice, and that's definitely the way to watch them. I think it is best to watch 456 before 123. Sure 123 come before however they do not really relate all that much to the laters other than the whole Darth Vader story. Much of what happens in 123 is not even mentioned. Different types of movies, 123 has great special effects but 456 have by far a better story that is far less confusing. the order they came out in... i would watch them in story order, which is 1-6. Tough one to answer. Star Wars purists like myself will suggest Ep 4-6 first. They were the first ones, the classics. But I also think there is some validity to watching them in numerical order.

They are completely different stories, but the same. I'll explain:

While the entire 6 films were made to show the rise and fall and redemption of Darth Vader; Eps 4-6 are sometimes seen as Lukes' story.

Looking at it from the perspective of the Vader story, it needs to be seen in numerical order. So you understand why Vader kills the Emperor at the end of "Jedi" If you see that first, you just dont know how he got there in the first place.

May the Force be with You! I would see Episodes 4, 5, & 6 (Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) and skip the prequels altogether. Most definitely watch them in the order they came out in because the prequel trilogy make alot of references to the originals, and you'll only understand them if you watch those first. 456-123=for the mystery of luke's father
123-456=for the entire sage to make sense. lol
