Does anyone think American Graffiti was a better movie than the Godfather?!

Question:

Does anyone think American Graffiti was a better movie than the Godfather?

Put on your Ebert shoes, and compare two great movies of different genres.

Answers: To me "American Graffiti" was the better film. It was a story you could follow. For me it was like when I was growing up in the late '50s. We would cruise El Camino Real between Millbrae and San Mateo, CA. It was a cruise between Kings drive-in in Millbrae and Kibby's drive-in in San Mateo.
The Godfather was a great movie. But I felt sorry for anyone that had not read the book. I am sure they were lost as to what was going on in the movie. It did not tell the whole story. ok, i'll bite...i'd watch american graffiti any day over any of
the godfathers.....went to see the original godfather and fell
asleep during the wedding scene....how &*^*ing long was that thing? the movie (gf) did pick up at the end, when they
started whacking each other.... American Graffiti had a lot of fantastic elements in it but I contend that it has one of the worst endings of any "coming of age" movie.

"So you're going to be too sad about me going away to college? I'm sorry honey. Don't worry, I just won't go."

UGH! It's just... it's ridiculous, it's not true to the character, it's a bad decision... I just hate it.

Otherwise yes it's a really fun movie. Is it a fantastic movie? Not at all. It's a nice romp but it is not a classic. It is not the Godfather.

If we're looking at best coming of age I'd start with John Cusack movies as the gold standard and work from there. Absolutely...

Although I respect what "The Godfather" is, it has never been my cup of tea personally.

On the other hand, "Graffiti" is a classic that I have enjoyed many times.
