Answers: The green rod he has is some kind of power crystal. It was with him in the ship that brought him to Earth, and it built the Fortress of Solitude. He used it in Superman II to get his powers back after he gave them up for Lois Lane. The crystal is seen again in Superman IV when Supes is sick after battling the bad guy. It is most definitely not Kryptonite. that is his Ipod.....

It is the crystal for him to take to north pole region, It is for his home fortress. Where he learns more about himself and his people Kryptonian Knowledge Crystal Huh I think it was kryptonite, I know he kept a sample in Smallville but i'm not sure about the originals. I haven't watched them since i was a kid. I believe in the last episode of Smallville superwoman or whatever her name is had one that stored knowlege also but it may be completely different.
