Answers: No he's not. He was the only good serial killer in my opinion. His weapon was the most orginal, the rest used knives and other equally boring thigs. Leatherface is partly based of notorious real life Wisconsin serial killer, Ed Gein, of the 1950s who was also reportedly homosexual, or transexual, but as most have declared that he wasnt. Both he and Leatherface are suffering from a severe mental instability due to lack of a womanly influence in their lives (same as Norman Bates in PSYCHO who Ed Gein also served as an influence). He was not a homosexual he just lacked clear definition and boundaries of gender. He was just really really confused and used his effiminate behaviors as a way of filling in the void of his missing mother. There is no evidence in the films to suggest that he is homosexual.
Leatherface is also portrayed as "severely mentally retarded and mentally disturbed" individual Leatherface is "completely under the control of his family. He'll do whatever they tell him to do. He's a little bit afraid of them." Director Tobe Hooper has argued on the documentary The Shocking Truth that Leatherface is a 'big baby' and kills in self-defense because he feels threatened, thus further eliminating his homosexuality.
I disagree with that you that he is a loser, well he is a loser, but the character is amazing and truly terrifying. One of the best and most original horror movie psychos, unfortunately ruined by sequels and remakes. I actually think he may be one, but not because he is a loser. I actually agree with you!
