The first movie to make me feel like bouncing off the walls and grabbing everyone to say, "See it!" was "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"! I was absolutely delighted with the film and still am. It was reassuring to see that Disney still is capable of making a really remarkable film that deserves to be dubbed "instant classic", unlike so much of the stuff they foist on the public.

When it finished, I told my friend, "If they don't give Johnny Depp the Best Actor Oscar, they're crazy! That's one of the most brilliant characters I've seen!" I had a hunch that it was Johnny, not the scriptwriter, who had created Captain Jack Sparrow since I've seen him do this throughout his career.

Well, they were crazy and threw the Oscar away to SP~YUCK!~for doing another of his over-the-top performances.

I was so happy to see no jive-talking sidekick, no anachronisms, fantastic special effects, and a story that parents and children could share. What a relief! Everything about this film is perfect to me, from the cast to the sets, from the script to the score.

What a refreshing experience that was!
