Fargo states it is a true story at the beginning but it's not: the Coen brothers put that in for a laugh. Otherwise it would be. I'm going to go for Cry Freedom, a film about South African anti apartheid activist Steve Biko, that film would make a Great White Shark cry.
We are Marshall, Freedom Writers
Sorry, this isn't weepy, but all the same, my favourite 'true' movie is 'Capote'- It's interesting, powerful stuff.

Truman Capote's big work was the novel 'In Cold Blood', which purported to be a factual novel about some murders, only he conveniently left himself and his research methods out of the book. The film puts him back in, and lets you see all the hard work he was doing. I guess you could shed a tear for those two men, the killers. If he'd used the evidence in his book, he could have save their lives- or at least tried- but he did no such thing, preferring to wait until they'd both hanged so he could score a literary genius point to his name. (He couldn't publish it until they were dead- so if he'd saved their lives, the novel would have 'died', something like that)
I saw a film called 'I know my first name is Stephen' a long time ago about 10-15 years ago... i have been keeping my eye out for it on the true movies channel but I haven't noticed it. I really can't remember all of it but i do sort of remember the plot - its about a kid who is kidnapped and brought up by these people but eventually escapes as a teenager but all he can remember is his name - hence the title. I thought it was good at the time would like to watch it again just to see, now i am grown up, if i understand it better!
'Follow The River'
Sheryl Lee stars in this fact-based story of a colonial woman taken prisoner by a tribe of Shawnee Indians during the French and Indian War. After being abducted to the tribe's settlement in the wilds of Virginia, Mary Ingles (Lee) befriends a Dutch woman who is also being held captive, and the two manage to escape and work their way back home through the dangerous Virginia wilderness. Based upon the novel by James Alexander Thorn. ~ amazing story
