Answers: Give me a definition
it means a praised film by the movie critics

dont belive me look at dis URL
The critics think whoever/whatever is great. That's about it.
The critics applauding a work publicly.
The movie critics acclaim (or think highly of) it to be of great technical or thespian value.
typically it means a movie really sucks.
It means most often that movie critics like a movie more than the american public does both are not often on the same page I think Titanic is one of the few examples of a critically acclaimed movie that the american public usually likes. Generally critically acclaimed movies are almost never comedies unless they are costume or dark comedies. I don't believe there has ever been many critically acclaimed adam sandler movies other than punch drunk love and reign over me. So to summarize, a critically acclaimed movie is not always the best movie because critics are often out of touch with what is good. Although it really surprised me when Roger Ebert gave a thumbs up to Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle its not like him to thumbs up a good funny movie. Hope that helps.
