We rented that film (back in the days of VHS) and every copy had apparently been played for about a half hour and then returned!
It was the most excruciatiing piece of garbage I have ever seen in my life!!! (And I love musicals!)

I can't stand Magnolia.

That was about 2 hours and forty-five minutes tooooo long.

Come to think of it, I've never seen Moulin Rouge.

I guess I'll keep on skipping it.

....Am watching,just a bit confused by the whole thing-not what I expected....so wierd cos it was recommended by 2 blokes I know and I didnt expect it to be so camp!

Ok I watched it through to the bitter end before I could make a judgement....beforehand I knew nothing of this film so it was a bit of a shock! I think you are right it is a film you love or hate though.Heres my view anyhow-I thought the storyline was weak,but the idea of modern songs set against the backdrop of moulin rouge was creative and innovative (albeit a little odd-I mean like Jin Broadbent singing Like a Virgin-incredibly disconcerting and yet strangely compelling!)
Nicole Kidman whilst hamming it up was utterly beautiful throughout,and Ewan McGregor really saved the whole film with his rather talented performance.
Visually utterly breathtaking and I loved the almost comic strip style of the cinematography.Costumes and lighting brilliant! I do wish though that we saw a little more actual dancing-one of the final scenes was ruined with the constant cutting back and forth to Ewan and Nicoles faces.
Finally the ending was a big let down after such a crescendo.
So would I see it again?Hmmm maybe now I understand it I would,but not a favourite film for me.

i tottally agree wen it first came out i had it bought me i watched it or a bit of it then took it bak to asda and got the money bak then got a mel gibson film with it wich was brilliant.

It's okay. We forgive you. I guess the storyline was not so great, but I still loved it. I think the main reason I loved it is because I'm in love with Ewan McGregor<3 And I loved each song in it.

Truly awful, i usually love musicals but this was horrendous. Tho worst film ever, that belong to Catwoman or Super Mario Brothers.

Edit- Cat Queen "It's our film, hubby and i" does that mean u force your man to watch this crap. That is technically torture.
