Is 'The Godfather' the best film of all time?!

Question: I watch it every few months and always discover something I missed from hundreds of viewings. No other film does that for me. What's your favourite bit from the film? I always remember the advice about 'Keeping your friends close but your enemies closer'.

Oh my, love this film and the book is even better!

In a film, There is always a bit you miss that you discover the next time around!

have to say, as an avid reader.....a film will, 90% of the time ruin a book, but this one.............the film went with the book!!
A rare thing!

  • No,,,,,but it`s in my top 50
Classic line but my fav is Gone with the Wind
    no,,
A similar thing is said in Goodfellas..... "Beware you killers, they come bearing smiles" credence brother, credence.
Yes, it is a great film and I saw the first one in 1973, aged 21 years old and 9 months pregnant. However, my favourite film is Midnight Cowboy (circa 1969) and starring Jon Voight (Angelina's dad) and Dustin Hoffman, who won the Oscar for his portrayal of Ratso Rico - BRILLIANT!
    Spaceballs anyone?
No, it is Carry On Camping
Citizen Kaine is supposedly to be the greatest movie ever but my favorites are Super Bad, 300, Transformers, Star Wars(all), Lord of the Rings, Forest Gump, and Fiddler on th Roof.
No but damn close. It is one of the best movies out there. My favorite bit is probably the assanation and the baptizing of Michael's godson. The contrast is brilliant.
no sorry, i think the shawshank redemption is the best film of all time. classy and oh so clever!!!! the godfather is rather good though.
No you should watch another film there are at least 20 better
Godfather I, hands down my favorite movie. I don't like II, it doesn't jive with the book, it makes it seem like Sonny should suffer because of the choices he made and the life he lives, which just isn't the way it is in the book. My favorite line is "Leave the gun, take the cannollis." It shows how offing someone is just another day at the office for them, and it's really funny.
There have been so many great movies through the years that pinning it down to one is impossible. So many great movies were made in the late 30's and into the 40's, remember they did not have the electronic wizardry that we have today and they still made quality films. Certainly the Godfather is one of the all time greats, but there are so many others that fall into that catergory, it's just a matter of individual taste.
i just have a weakness for gangster movies. goodfellas. carlitos way. godfather l, ll & lll.
godfather lll. 'who sent ya?'. 'nobody!'. 'wait don't move. i want you to see something.' **bam- gun shot** 'now, who sent ya?'. 'nobody...' hey, did you take a good look at this guy?'.
my favorite use to be Wuthering Heights: olivier*oberon. next was Gone with the Wind- '...with enough courage you won't need a reputation'. 'oh, rhett, how you did talk scandalous!!!'.
but my all time favorite is Schindler's List.
ye its great movie but i dont think there is a "best movie" of all time, different movies offer different things
Any movie that Al Pacino does is the greatest film of all time
Hec yeah look at imdb.com it says 250 movies and the godfather i think is 1
