The 1958 version is a good movie, with great performances by Newman, Taylor, and especially Burl Ives, but because of the censorship of the times, it completely changes one of the central issues of the play as Williams wrote it (I'm trying to avoid spoilers.) If you want to see the play as it was originally intended, rent the 1985 version.
the one with elizabeth taylor, burl ives and paul newman is reckoned to be the better version, more atmospheric.
Elizabeth Taylor/ Paul Newman is the only one ive wathced, but its worth watching
The original is the best. That's the only true movie version because the other two were made for television.

The whole cast is amazing! The children are soooo irritating that I love seeing Maggie go after them! *giggle*

I'm proud to say that Burl Ives, who plays Big Daddy, was born and raised not far from where I live, a tiny place named Hunt aka Hunt City.

Elizabeth Taylor lost her true love, Mike Todd, during the filming when he was killed in a plane crash.

I've heard that the Jessica Lange version is quite good, but I've never seen it.
