Answers: I like old scary movies way more than new ones(80's 70's). like a nightmare on elm street, especialy the first one. candy man. the fly. new scary movies just seem to be too predictable.

Movies are about money, not about art and creativity.

Predictable: because they go with the old formulas that make money, they don't try something new as that would be risky - they don't know if it will make money. If they just so happen to come up with a new money making formula, they quickly pump out the sequels and formula copies....

Also, movies are more into how can we write in some good effects instead of how can we write a good story. Then, it is those with the budget to promote their movie that people see, not the good movies.

Yeah with you on that. My fave Scary is Halloween. They just don't make em like that anymore!

Because they do not know how to make them like that anymore but you should go see

Psycho
Halloween all of them
Saw 1&2

That's because the more of a movie genre that you see (in this case "Horror") the more you are able to predict what will happen next.

Horror especially falls victim to this because there's always the same story pretty much.

Now, newer horror movies also generally stink, so there's that on top.

We have become desensitized. I f you want to see something scary, look at the democratic presidential hopefuls.

2 reasons
1) you get older so can take more before getting scared so the movies you watched when you were younger seem better because they scared you more.
2) Annoying Political Correctness and those parents who complain about anything that could be considered to be offensive if looked at in that certain way, has made movie makers have to lower the standard to allow the movie to be released.
I mean if you don't want your kids to see it don't take them to see it its the same with games. I heard this story about a Grandma who bought a game that had an age rating for 18s for her 12 year old grandson and then when she saw him playing it took it back complained to the makers about making a game that contained that much violence. STUPID PEOPLE LIKE THIS REALLY ANNOY ME!!!!

Because we are becoming more desensatized as time goes on.

as we see more and more, we can guess more and more what's going to happen. We can only be surprised if we see something original. From the producers point of view - it's getting harder and harder to be original - all the good stuff has been taken. The latest thing that scared me was "The Ring". In contrast, The Grudge was a zero. It did not match my expectations. "Scream 3" did good for a surprise twist in the plot. But movie producers really have to work hard nowadays to be original.

Because they used to SCARE you.

NOW "scary" is when the director decides to use as much blood and gore as possible. That's not scary.

Scary is when you don't see it coming.
Scary is when you have to use your imagination.
Scary is when you dont know what's behind the door or under the stairs or on the porch.

Directors and Writers have forgotten that Blood+Gore doesn't = scary.
