Why do movies nowadays have background music so loud it hurts the ears, then, th!

Question: Anyone else have this problem?
Why is the music so loud that I have to turn my volume down, then have to turn it up again to hear the dialog?
And why have LOUD music over any dialog? How can I hear what is being said? After all, the theaters do not have closed claptioning.

It's ok Cindy, I have the same problem. You're not alone. I think it's due to the fact that movies rely too heavily on background music these days. When you were my age you were watching actual movies! Movies like Annie Hall that had great acting and directing. Today's movies look nice and sleek but they're not unique. I envy you. Back in the 60s we had real tv, not reality crap. I find myself watching TV Land, Nick@Nite, and MeTv and I'm only 23. I guess I'm not blinded by anything that's shiney unlike the rest of my generation.

Yes, this was especially bad in the DVD release of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, with Kevin Kostner.

I believe this is attributed to bad re-mastering.

I hope they can fix it soon, I hate to watch a movie with my finger constantly hovering over the volume button.

yup...

i think it's for extra dramatization

YESS, I actually do have that problem, when i downloaded a movie with poor sound quality... ITS A REALLY BIG HASTLE..

Yes, I know what you mean. And the movies are getting shorter and shorter in time, They used to be 3 hours plus, now they are less than 2 hours.

well, actually i think it hasnt changed much for a decade. by the way, how old are you??

yeah what's the point in that? Shouldn't it then be called foreground music

That sucks, I wonder who we can talk too about that?!? Let's do a riot!!!, Lower the music, louder dialog, lower the music, louder dialog!!! Woooohoooo... Just kidding hun!!!

Would you be a honey bee and answer this?

it may be your age. If you're in your 40's or 50's, the effects from your party days are beginning to surface. The fibers inside your ears that detect high pitch or "treble" were possibly damaged from all the loud music you listened to when you were young. Now, the bass, or the lower frequency sound waves are hitting the fibers in your ear that are still intact, so your perception is the highs (like voices) are "turned down" while the music (mostly bass or mid) are "too loud" to you.

Getting old. It happens. Cheer up.

Sorry but I am young and the mastering and re-mastering of DVD's is horrid they do such a bad job now it is almost intolerable
