What did you guys think of the movie American History X?!

Question: 1) Rate it from 1-10, why'd you give it this rating?
3) what did you think of the movie itself?

I'd give it a 9, i've never given a movie a 10 before. this movie is the closest i've given to a 10 before, even closer than the godfather.

this movie is simply amazing. the best movie i've seen not just in a long time but the best i've ever seen and will remain that way for maybe forever. it was so powerful and violent but it got me very emotional, i almost cried.

9, for the same reason as you, I never give a movie a 10.

Very powerful movie I agree, and that scene where that guy gets stomped on the curb is brutal. And I did cry at the end, bawled like a baby.

I loved that movie!!!!

9.5 it was a ******* great movie. With a good message... and enough violence to satisfy me.

saw it years ago was good i would say like an 8

1. 9
it was kind of boring at times

3. cool

I didn't watch it. But I seem to remember seeing it while skimming through the Comcast lineup.

I'd give it a 7. It's a violent movie, but it has a good moral story. I wouldn't say it was the best movie I have seen, but it does get you thinking about a lot of things.

I give the movie a 7/8
The content and story line is stellar. The movie is excellent, well made, and the theme or plot is exciting. very moving. Thought provoking.

Great movie. I would give it a 8. Edward Norton should have gotten an Oascar. Derek Vinyard was a crazy azzhole, that learned to love EVERYBODY!!!!!

I have not watched the whole thing, only small clips, but from the very small part I saw it struck me as yet another movie painting white guys as "the big bad racists"

I just finished watching it on tv also.

I think it was a good movie, definitely worth watching, but better than the godfather? I don't know. The whole neo-nazi issue is a sad sad deal which the movie certainly highlights to some degree. All in all, I give it a 7-8.

i give it an 8 and i do consider it a great movie, edward norton portrayed his character perfectly. i think in any of his movies, he always put his whole heart into it. that's why i was so drawn to the movie. the movie, i know has a message, but i havent really went that deep into it yet. i'll have to sleep on it, and think about it lol, because i just watched it like 5 minutes ago, and i got to let it sink in. other movies by edward norton have great messages too, may be not like this one, but they all do, may be you should check them out, but then again thats my opinion.

Well, the asker won't agree with me, but I give it a four out of ten.
I felt the ending was effed up. Although I understand the concept of irony in movies, I still do not agree with killing off the younger brother after he had just become a better person. What a waste of character development.

Another problem I had was that not a single one of the characters was remotely likeable, with the exception of the black prisoner who came to Norton's aid when it had no obvious benefits to himself.
