Name of a horror movie where the people of a town dissapear?!

Question: Ive been trying to remember the name of a horror movie from a little while back where all the people of a town disappear and I think a team or the government get called in to investigate, and all they find are some metal remains of the people at first, like a pacemaker. then theres something about a big blob monster, maybe. And it wasn't "the blob". and I'm fairly sure it wasn't a low budget or B-movie. So any help using my horrid description would be great.

you're thinking of the film 'Phantoms',based on a book by Dean Koontz. A woman drives out of town to pick up her baby sister and when she returns the whole town is deserted. Here's a blip from IMDB: Two sisters Lisa and Jennifer Pailey arrive in a small California town in Winter and find it deserted . Something is very wrong but Lisa and Jennifer arrive at the conclusion as to what's happening far too readily thereby diffusing all tension and mystery . Not only but it makes for very unconvincing charaterisation and it's not only just the Pailey sisters who suffer from this poor characterisation it's everyone else too . This is a movie where scientists feature but the two most intelligent people happen to be an author of mystical speculation and a small town sheriff ! Hope this helps.

silent hill

silent hill.
although. it doesnt match the rest of that.. and you'd prolly remember the monsters from silent hill..

Not sure if this is right, but it sounds like your describing THE LANGOLIERS. It was a made for TV mini series from the novel by Stephen King. The bulk of the story takes place on a cross country plane flight. When the plane flies through "an anomoly," the majority of the passengers disappear.

It's a decent flick, worth getting from NetFlix or your local rental shop.

Actually, it sounds a lot like "Phantoms", which was based off of a Dean Koontz novel.
