Question: Can you believe that Dumbledore is gay? I just read the article and J.K. Rowling says so! I am so dissappointed (and wierded out). Isn't this supposed to be a children's book?

I haven't read the article and this is the first I've heard of this. But why in the world did she even bother to say that??? Seriously, couldnt that have not even been thought of or brought up??? Good grief. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with people beng gay, one of my best friends is, but did she not stop to think how her readers would react?? Would like to read the article though.

I don't know.....she never really said it was specifically meant for children. I am pretty okay with it, theres nothing wrong with gay people. (personally it is not a choice of mine, but I can't stop other people from doing it) I read these books from the time I was 8 years old and I'm 14 now.

I'm just disappointed in his apparent lack of good taste by falling for a guy like Grindlewald.
But he was young then and, as they say, love is blind.
He came to his senses soon after though.
Who cares if he was gay? He was still a kind, intelligent, caring, giving and wonderful character. THAT'S what counts!!
I don't see where it matters. The stories are still good. I think Rowling now has another agenda she is pursuing. If she had stated this when she began the series you have to wonder if they would ahve sold as well. Why bother to say anything now? My own personal feeling is that her next project will flop. You get the feeling from her statements about this that she has no idea what to do next. I thought the ending to the series was lame, just my take.
Your disapointed? What is wrong with you? This is great! It's so amazing that they are including people of all sexualites in children's books. Your shouldn't be "wierded out" or disapointed you homophobe! BTW, it isn't a childrens book. It's much too dark for children.

So all of the books are out. It was never mentioned in any of the books. Although they (Albus and Grindenwell) were close as young men. Why is this information comming out now? If J.K.R. really wanted to help the gay community, she would have put this in the books, not just spoken it afterwards. He is a fictional character, in a fictional world. This really appears to be a money making publicity stunt. If she really wanted to help the gay community it WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BOOKS. Regardless of how you feel about gay people, I think this is more of a slap in the face to them, then open acceptance.
