Verdict on 30 Days of Night...?!

Question: Who liked it?

*I* thought it was effective! Lots of tense, creepy scenes. Menacing as hell vampires. (good to see vampires as truly scary again as opposed to these romanticised creatures.

Major thumbs up for me.

The vampires were yukky all right, and thoroughly nasty, in the image of Nosferatu! Still, the gore was pretty much PG. The humans chopping off their friends' heads with a dull ax seemed gorier.

The "30 days of night" concept got kind of lost, I thought. In a 2 hour movie, 30 nights or one long night are all the same. The only indication that 30 nights were involved was the refreshing gimmick of having the Sheriff's mustache and beard grow. But everyone else stayed fresh as a daisy!

My usual complaint: With the pressure to keep megaplex screens filled, studios have to get films in the can and out the door too fast, so plots are sketchy and characters sparingly developed and unsympathetic.

It was a diversion. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price.

haven't seen it

i have not seen the movie yet it looks reallly good though

Haven't seen it yet Fonz
Looking forward to it though, I completely agree about your assessment on Vampires though, sight unseen.

The visuals (the vampires and the town) really help in making the movie tense ans scary at times. But the story really lagged in the second half and the end brought not closure whatsoever for the parties involved (human and vampire).

C is the grade I give it. Incredible visuals. Awesome premise but there were a lot of missed opportunities.
