The Exorcist - Hands down, the scariest movie ever.

I agree with Mark ^^

The Descent.

From Dusk till Dawn.

The Exorcist

In ist day and when I was younger it was the Exorcist, but watching it 30 years later it was not all that frighenting or shocking by today's standards.

Realistic movies in the past year that I have seen that have shocked and horrified me are "Hostel" and "Rest Stop" (which could both realistically happen in today's society) and Wolf Creek (Wolf Creek is based on a true story).

Less convincing and less realistic stories, yet still scary versions of the above, are "Wrong Turn" and any of the the Texas Chain Saw Massacre videos...I couldn't even stand to finish watching the prequal I rented as I knew it was going to result in everyone being dead.

I loved Salem's Lot. To this day my brother will not watch it. The vampire just totally freaked him out. The remake was pretty good also.

Also The Lost Boys is a classic. Not that scary but cool and entertaining.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Poltergeist.

Grudge 2

I don't know if it's the "best," but I found "The Ring" to be the most DISTURBING horror film I've ever seen.

Night of the Living Dead(1968)
