If you like comedy, you could choose Legally Blonde (1 & 2), god there's so many good ones!!
If you like horror, then you've got the Texas Chain saw Massacre, Hannibal
If you like weepies, then you've akways got Titanic, Dirty Dancing or one of my favourite films - Stepmum.

It all depends on what kind of a movie night it is. If it's girly movies you can't beat one of the following options:
*Steel Magnolias, Dirty Dancing, Beaches, The First Wives Club, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember
If it's action/adventure movies, try:
*The Indiana Jones movies, Terminator 2, Bad Boys 2, The Matrix, Face/Off
Or just take a pick from relatively new DVD releases like Hot Fuzz, Spiderman 3, 300, The Last King of Scotland

The best two films i've seen recently were Ringu (creepy Japanese ghost story: not by yourself!) and Laberinto del Fauno (surreal fantasy related to Spanish civil war - superb acting by 11 year old girl in lead role!)
