I'd like to get into making music for movies, what's the best way to do !

Question: I'd like to be involved in the process even if it means, working for someone who does.

Answers: I'd like to be involved in the process even if it means, working for someone who does.

It's pretty hard to get into making music for films as more often than not they are looking for experience and other film work.

This is obviously difficult when looking for your first job! One way in would be to compose and create a few different styles of music for a demo CD and send it off to record companies and film companies (big companies such as Universal and Sony) have interests in music and film so would be good bets).

I was recently talking to someone who currently makes 'production music' (library music) that is sent off to TV companies . His music is often used on major TV channels and has gained some connections with people involved in film sound.

Don't expect to walk straight into a job - you'll need to be a good composer, making music that has a clear purpose and also have luck. If you're good enough, you'll get snapped up by a record company and probably start in TV music. From there you will meet people who may be able to help with your ultimate goal, or some people that would want you to work with them.

They say it's not what you know but who you know. This is kind of true - but whoever you know won't take you on if you don't know anything!

Good luck.

sleep with the director

It would be benificial to get familiar with software used for this such as pro tools.. It would also be worth while to do a course in film production so you understand the makings of film...
