Why do people act so stupid in scary movies?!

Question: A mad guy with an ax comes after a girl. She goes into a room shuts the door behind her and leans against it with her back. So the guy can break it down and hurt her back in the same time.

She hears something outside. Rather than stay in the house, she goes out of the house and asks John, is that you?

When they sense a ghost in the house, they split up and run to all possible different directions. Why don't they stick together?

Because in a movie, there needs to be holes to be fulled with someghing scary to happen. the easiest set ups are when the vitvims are alone.

That's the only way to move the stupid plot along.

Because there would be no movie.

Here's the breakdown -

Movie Person: "Wow, old mansion looks absolutely creepy...dust, musty smell, creaky stairs, no lights...it's scary looking."
Ghostly whisper: "GET OUTTTTTTTTTTTT."
Movie Person: :: dinks around for 90 minutes and nearly dies ::

Me: "Cool mansion."
Ghostly whisper: "GET OUTTTTTTTTTTTT."
Me: :: vroom! ::

See? I wouldn't even get you past the opening credits.

Because if they were smart, there'd be no movie!

a question for the ages...............

They act stupid so the audience doesn't feel inferior!

they r paid 2 do it and it adds 2 the story

Because if they acted normally, there would be no movie.

Because horror movies are about people dying and stupidity gets people killed.

Most want attention

i wonder the same thing .. guess it just makes it unpredictable ...

lol fictional movies

Im not really sure.
But its not REAL
And if anything you learn what NOT to do from those movies.

they think its funny but its not. I know what u mean. Its the stupidest movie ever invented. Id rather watch barnie than that stupid crap. Hollywood ran out of ideas.

It makes for good story line and supports the plot, so the killer and kill the expendable characters.

Because if they were all rational and thought out the situation like we would, the movie would be even more boring than what it really was. If the guy with the ax is killed in the first five minutes the movie is over.

Without such obvious mistakes, a horror movie would not function. How does the slow moving zombie manage to catch up to the fast moving victim? The magic of hollywood! Good thing we don't live there! :-)

Yeah! I love in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) when the girl goes to the door of a complete stranger and (after hearing pig noises and weird sounds inside, and no answers to her hellos) just goes inside on her own.
Seriously, I would walk 20 miles to find help or a friend rather than enter a house where I heard all those noises. There's no reason for pig/people squealing noises in a house. None I want to know about anyways.
Yeah, people are real dumb in most of them.

If people were more reasonable in horror movies they wouldn't be as susceptible to serious injury. The movies would then just be called "moderately scary" movies. You need a couple lemmings in a film to let the boogie man really stretch their wings.

Still there are good horror flicks out there, like The Shinning, The Exorcist, The Omen, The Thing. No remarkably stupid people in these flicks.

I have wondered the same thing. But that is just how scary movies are suppose to be, I guess. I prefer the ones that have the smart person who figures out how to get past the villian.

Because they are all white. It may sound racist but it is true.

Black people dont do that; they dont stand their and scream while a person is coming after them, they dont check the door if they know some creepy person is out there.

White people are just really retarded I guess. (yes im insulting myself)

lol yea they should stick together instead of running around :)

Because it's for our entertainment. you wouldn't be entertained in a scary movie if everyone kept their cool, made logical choices, and got out alive.. it wouldn't be a scary movie.. it would be a survival training video. bleah!

Because that's what the script said to do...
Now what fun would the movie be if nobody got hurt?

Would you rather say:
"I watched a movie and the people were so stupid and died/ got hurt" and have a discussion on why they were stupid
or
"I watched a scary movie, every one was smart and got away"

for example: in saw 2 the girl went into the room to get the antidote in a box hanging from the ceiling, stuck her hand in one hole and realized the holes had razor blades around them, what does she do? sticks her other hand into the other hole with the razor blades...
Stupid? Yes...
Entertaining? Absolutely

The stereotypes in scary movies are that the 'full bodied' young ladies usually act like 'hos' and sleep around, the guys are usually 'jocks' that come across as strong silent and dumb, and the weird-troubled kid is usually the psycho murderer, or the outcast that saves the day. Why is this? Simple. Because it's a reflection of our stupid and simplistic society/culture where we grow up believing that we have to label everything in order for it to have purpose or make sense. Not to mention that I think Hollywood is pushing some covert Neo-Quaker agenda. lol.

It is a convention. The splitting up one really annoys me.

My wife had never seen a horror movie until she met me. I gave her the same run-down that would appear in the movie "Scream" years later (sex=death, drugs=death, alcohol=death, molesting/torturing children=freaky death)

We're all going to die ... let's have sex!!!

its directing, i guess its because a person calling John rather than stay in the house doesnt want to believe that there is something there. Instead shes really hoping its john there to keep her company and help take her mind off the spooky stuff... as for the girl against the door, she cant think of any thing to hold the door from opening,, shes panicing... when in panic you do stupid clumsy stuff! your body and mind gets confused no time to plan!
as for the spliting up part,,, i guess so if it takes one person firts it would buy you some time to find a way to escape and know what its after ...... if they stick to gether and the ghost is powerful,, one blow will get all of them at once right?!

lol,, crazy and stupid indeed! it all sums up too they dont have time to think,, panic attack! what would you do in the spur off a moment if u were standing there and a car was headed straight for you? you think you would run right,,, your mind is not fast enough to send to message to you body to move, it would look first, then figure out whats going on and before you decide to run...... too late!!! "never say never"!

The most obvious answer is: It's a movie. But with that aside, how do you truly know how you're going to act unless you're in that situation. I would like to think I would never do those things, but who knows?

because if people actually thought things out and used their brains the movie would be a lot shorter, check out a site called "how they should have ended" they have a good one on Texas chainsaw, makes me giggle

It's supposed to be the panic that drives them to it. Some people do panic and do crazy things. Others are at least capable of rational thought, of course that's not going to happen till the end of the movie when it's time to kill the ax muderer.

It wouldnt be a movie without the dumb blonde falling, and you waiting in suspense and yelling at her. It wouldnt be a movie if they shot the monster easily at the beginning
