Are the movies Evil Dead, and Evil Dead 2 the same story, just told differently?!

Question: Evil Dead II is not a remake of the first movie and was never intended to be. For legal reasons, Sam Raimi couldn't use footage from the first movie in order to make a recap at the beginning that would let the audience know what had happened in the first movie that led to the events of Evil Dead II. So he had to re-shoot some key scenes from the first, but with a simplified plot. For example, the recap was streamlined to only show Ash and his girlfriend (now played by a different actress) going to the cabin in the woods, instead of going with their friends as well. Approximately 7 minutes into Evil Dead II, the final scene from The Evil Dead plays again (Ash standing outside the cabin alone, turning around when a spirit is approaching him), and the story of Evil Dead II begins.

Army of Darkness (1993)
The film is a sequel to The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II. The protagonist, Ash, who discovered the Necronomicon ex Mortis, or "Book of the Dead", that unleashed demonic forces in the previous films The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II, is sucked into a time vortex with his Oldsmobile, an event caused by reading the spell to defeat the demons. He ends up in a medieval land around 1300 AD, where he is believed to be the "Hero From The Sky", the man destined to deliver salvation to mankind from the "Deadites", or the undead, as is told at the end of Evil Dead II. The plot, though, alters somewhat between the ending of Evil Dead II and the beginning of Army of Darkness.

I agree with the above explanation but would like to add that Evil Dead 2 though not a direct remake has many similarities to the original just done with a bigger budget. A lot of what is in Evil Dead 2 was what Sam Raimi wanted to do the first time around but didn't have the money for.

Parallel to what John Carpenter did with Escape From New York and Escape From LA. Sequel and remake at the same time.

they are a trilogy here is the third one http://dix.fanforum.cc/viewtopic.php?t=8...

The guys above are correct. They are great movies, and I highly recommend all three.
