Are you thinking of the movie "They" where the "ghost" creature comes after children at night and the light scares it away? And one of the children grows up with all these problems but comes to help this other boy overcome it and they go up the light house and finally the light causes the "ghost" to blow up?..That's what it sounds like to me....
