what types of movies do you like?

A collection of movies is like a collection of paintings - you buy them for the stories, either about the movie itself or about what it means to you. What is important to you, and how the movie relates to that, is what makes something "essential". Don't just buy movies other people tell you are essential - that means they're essential to that person, not you.

One good place to start is triplets. Pick something you like - post-modern ennui, cars, musicals and pick three movies from different eras on the same subject. Example:

Breakfast at Tiffany's / Fight Club / Office Space

or

Easy Rider / Two Lane Blacktop / Vanishing Point

or

Bye Bye Birdie / Grease / High School Musical

Anyone can buy a couple of movies off the rack at Target. Take the time to collect movies, related ones, special ones. If you can't tell a story about a movie in your collection what on Earth do you own it for?

Donnie Darko

Poltergeist

Clueless

Police Academy 1 thru 4

Phantom of the opera, Gone with the wind, Sound of Music. to name a few

ace ventura pet detective/ when nature calls

The Notebook
Big Fish
Next (nick cage)
The ghost and the darkness
Blood diamond
Disturbia

Pulp Fiction

Scarface

Office Space

Super Troopers

the prestige, the green mile, wedding crashers, scarface, rock star, talledega nights etc... the prestige is the siz nit.

Every girl has to have a couple of chic flicks, some action for the boys, a scary one if you want, and a couple of comedy movies are essential for a good collection. I recommend Ever After and the Holiday for the chic flick section; Superman, Spiderman 1, 2, 3 and the fugitive for action; I don't like scary movies so I can't recommend any but Donavan's Reef and Rio Lobo are good comedies if you like old movies. If you don't, She's the Man and any any disney or pixar movie will do.

Dogma
Spaceballs
Armageddon
13 Going on 30
Die Hard 1

Owning thousands of movies at this point might I suggest no movies at all.

Why?

Mediums keep changing.

I have movies on tape, on CED, on laser, on DVD and now they want us to go to Blue Ray and HD DVD. Needless to say you find it harder and harder to replace or upgrade your collection.

I can't remember how many different copies of Star Wars and the Godfather I have.

It is ridiculous.

The only advise I should give you is to save your money and rent what you like.

Of course, I know from experience that leaves you unable to see your favorites if they are old or unusual. Those you seem to have to buy.

I have movies that are so bad they will never be seen in stores again, try finding a copy of "Mulletville".

I also have old and oscure like "Endless Love", "The Prodigal", and "All this and Heaven Too"

The point is they wind up taking over your house and you wind up wondering why you ever started collecting them.

So, tell your friend to be happy because this gives your a reason to go see him/her.

And then forget everything I have warned you about and buy "The Sure Thing" with John Cusack. It is a should see. There are no must sees.

girls gone wild unlimited rush

well, for you um, boys gone wild unlimited rush
