House of 1000 corpses
The Ring (japanese version!!)
The Shinning (not scary but a classic)
Cary (classic)
Misery (again a classic)
The number 23 (will make you think)
Jeepers Creepers 1/2 (it's a terrible cliche film hence why it's so entertaining to watch)
The Blair Witch Project (it's great leaving it all to the imagination)
all the Saw movies.
Also try on the internet, there will be loads of good sites reccomending stuff.

I really don't know whats scary these days. But these movies are good. Word of warning. THE DESCENT and THE THING start of kind of slow. The pay off is great!!!

watch the excersist the old one from the 70's or something not the new one or watch freedy versus Jason or Jason x but Jason x is more funny then scary id watch Jason x by myself home alone and id just be laughing at everyone getting killed but i wouldn't watch freedy versus Jason or any of the excersost films alone because the excersost is meant to be true or watch the Ouija board its s**t scary
A very old film called the lady in white, me, my grandmother, my mother all watched it and we had to turn it off it was that scary. Doubt you will get it in a dvd store however, but maybe u can download it.
