OLD SCHOOL HORROR MOVIES: Why are they great?!
Question: Since Halloween is "upon us." A lot of the movies channels are showing nothing but horror movies. Marathons. Watching many of the classics just make me appreciate the horror genre even more. Its produced a lot of classic and memerable movies and characters. Elm street, Friday, Halloween , the omen ect
So I was wondering, what is it you like about the old school horror movies of the past? What do you remeber most about any of your favorites? Or the current ones now?
I was born in 86' so I'm just now appreciating them.

I had to chuckle a little when you referred to the aforementioned movies as classics. I guess they are becoming just that. When I think of classics, though, I tend to think in terms of movies prior to 1970. The movies you mentioned are classics because they broke the mold and set the bar for other movies that followed.
If you want some other good horror movies, go back to the "golden classics" like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and The Birds; or the original "The Haunting" with Julie Harris, or even The Univited (from the 30's or 40's, British, I believe, starring Ray Milland). They were classics because of what they didn't show, allowing your imagination to run wild.

Probably because you knew something was going to happen (badly) but still would jump in your seat because of how they utilized the background music, sound effects.
