Zombies followed a certain pattern until George Romero made them cannibalistic. As far as I know, before Romero, zombies were living people who had been placed in that state by various means, most having to do with voodoo practices. They are featured in such films as "I Walked with a Zombie", "White Zombie", "The Zombies of Mora-Tau", "The Serpent & the Rainbow" (rather recent), "Zombies on Broadway and in many b&w films of the Thirties-Fifties. Exceptions are "The Astro-Zombies" and "Invisible Invaders", in which dead bodies are reanimated. They murder/attack people but do not consume human flesh.

After Romero's first film, everyone seemed to change how zombies were treated except for "The Serpent & the Rainbow". I'm not saying that every zombie was revived by a virus or other means, but it seems to have become the new norm, that and cannibalism. Some seem to want to bite in order to contaminate, so that's a variation, isn't it? Also, some die and reanimate while others seem to "catch" being a zombie~"Resident Evil" series, "Living Dead" series, "28 Days Later" and sequel, etc.

All zombies seem to have extreme limitations when it comes to physical activity and any sort of comprehension beyond the very basic level. They rarely make comprehensible sounds; most seem to be mute. There is a complete lack of emotions except for the desire to kill and sometimes feed. The majority apparently aren't concerned with self-defense.

Does that help at all? I imagine someone out there has a site where it's all worked out.

LOL
you should watch shaun of the dead.
it's amazing.
one of the best movies ever.
omg.
Basically,
you're bitten,
you become a zombie.
If you're a zombie, the only way to die is by having your head (yourbrains) destroyed.
I love zombies. :D:D:D:D

I would think that people would become zombies because of a problem with their brain, possibly as a result of chemicals, viruses, parasites, or experiments.

The zombies i like are:

1) Of unknown origin, like some Romero's films where nobody knows what the hell is going on..... i also like zombies that have to do with rituals, like voodoo or witchcraft
2) Slooooow, and without any intelligence, they just want to eat.... (i hate new fast Einstein zombies)
3) Rotten, i hate when in new zombie flicks the zombies are just extras with some powder to make them pale.... i like rotten, mutilated zombies.
4)Easy to defeat, you can easily beat them, the problem is that there are hundreds of them.
5) Scary, and sometimes even sad.... i don't like "funny" zombie movies.
