The Golden Compass...Is it true?!

Question: In this movie set to be released December 7th, 2007 starring Nicole Kidman and other A+ celebs...I heard AND read that this movie was based from a novel written by an Atheist in England and at the end of the movie- Jesus or God is killed.
Is this true?
I know that movie has yet to be released...but can you tell me anything that you have heard about this movie and or if you can tell me if it's true about the killing of Jesus/God?
Thanks in advance!

Yes and no.

It was written by an English atheist, who specifically was writing a counter to the allegoy in the Chronicles Of Narnia. And "God" does die, of old age, at the conclusion of the series.

But, as anybody who actually READS the books can tell you, "God" is not God. The entity that dies is merely the first born of a race of ethereal creatures form another dimension. He claims to be god, the creator of all things. But he's really just a con.

Please, don't join the ranks of people who will hate this movie on the basis of religion and ignorance. Hate it becasue it will be a watered-down bastardization of a very well written story.

Yup, look it up on snopes.com - I did.

It's evidently true - check out snopes.com and read a review that will send chills up your spine. The Athiests may be happy about it, but read the review and see where this could go.

Heres a link to the wikipedia arcticle on the subject:

idk bout the movie, but u should read the book, yes, there r books, the golden compass, the subtle knife, and anuther 1, try amazon 4 it, thers a thrid 1, the evil idiot at the end gets killed, but he aint god, no way no how, just sum retarded idiot who tries 2 get in2 heaven or sumthin

There is a character called God, who dies. The novelist is a very outspoken atheist, and the book is about thinking carefully about figures of authority.

I'd read the book before making assumptions. All I got from the book was that you shouldn't just believe what everyone else believes because they believe it. You should think through things and work out your own thoughts on the beliefs you hold.

Yes, its true, isn't that great?

it is not Jesus that dies, it is a power hungry idiot who is trying to get into heven and he like dies of old age or something....i read the book years ago...

Doesn't sound like something I want to go to, and definitely not getting my kid to go see. How is a kid going to understand the difference between the character and her Lord? No thanks!

you know, I heard the same thing. The writer is an Atheist, and wanted something to combact Narnia.

absolutley true. i thought it looked good to until i saw that. theirs an email going around about it, maybe youll get it. also on snopes.com
