I think it is more like this:

Kong's pursuit of "the Beauty" is what killed him in the end. He could easily have gotten away... But, he was driven to be with her...

(That is why it is the "Moral" of the story)

basically, yeah. the whole theme behind King Kong is that man is the real monster.

It means that it was not man and all his weapons and guns and such that destroyed him and killed him in the end but his love for the woman that caused him to make those mistakes and take those risks, that killed him.
