Question about names in the "Halloween" movies...?!

Question: Going back to the original Halloween, staring Jamie Lee Curtis and directed by John Carpenter....why is her name Lorie Strode, while her brother's name is Michael Myers? I'm not sure if I just missed it, or if some explanation never happened. In Halloween H2O, she had changed her name again, but that was to allow herself to disappear. Could someone please help?

Most people suppose that Laurie Strode was adopted by another family. Perhaps her parents died in an accident.

Actually, John Carpenter never intended Laurie to be Michael's sister; he intended "Halloween" to be a one-shot film. The studio pressured him to do another, so he had scenes shot for the version that would be shown on television, inserting the information that he went back to Haddonfield to kill his now-teenage sister.

After "Halloween 3" was such a flop, the studio wanted Carpenter to continue with the series. Thus, they basically were making this stuff up as they went along.

This Wikipedia site has some useful information...
What is WRONG with Yahoo! that it won't let you post some links?! ARRRGH! Anyway, you can type in Michael Myers in Wikipedia, and it will take you to the page that has information about all of the "Halloween" films. I used this link not long ago, but now it won't accept it!

By the way: Wikipedia calls Michael Myers "one of the first slasher villains", but he comes along far down the line if you ask me. Films that predate "Halloween" as a "splatter" flick are "Psycho", "Peeping Tom", and even versions of "Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (yes, the one Johnny Depp is starring in). I really feel that filmmakers were merely using the Jack the Ripper story, turning reality into endless fictional killers. By that route, "Halloween" arrived long after others~well~had carved their niche.

i was going to post the same question after i watched the remake of halloween yesterday....and its laurie strode...
Maybe she wanna forget michael?

she was adopted by the strode family after her family died. the strode family then had her records sealed to protect her.
