Who do you think has undeservingly won an oscar?!

Question: I thought the most undeserving was for best director, Clint Eastwood, for "The Unforgiven." Although I like him, it definitely was not the best movie of the year. Some kind of prize for the work he has done? You can name movies, directors, best actors/actresses or best actors/actresses.

Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas
Rocky over Taxi Driver

i mean CMON!!!!

Sean Penn~simply turned in his usual histrionic performance
Johnny Depp should have won the Best Actor Oscar that year!

I have a lot of others who won but have been so awful afterwards that they should give the Oscars back, including Cuba Gooding, Jr. Have you noticed all of the dreadful films he's followed up with?

Reese Witherspoon~She looks and sounds absolutely nothing like June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line"! There were more-deserving actresses.

I enjoy the acting of Robert Donat, but Clark Gable should have won Best Actor for "Gone With the Wind"!

Many people still believe that "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" should have won Best Picture instead of "Gandhi", which had a much smaller viewing base. This isn't taking away from the importance of the latter picture, but people felt that "E.T." was snubbed because 1) it was a blockbuster and 2) it's science fiction.

A recent Best Song winner is an embarrassment and a true low in Oscar history. That is a nasty, horrible song to be honored, and I was absolutely shocked that it was even nominated. I'm certain that people in the future will NOT be singing some song about being a pimp! Film historians will be questioning this selection.

I love the film "Oliver!", but I truly think that "Romeo & Juliet" was the Best Picture that year. It's been my favorite film for almost 40 years, from the moment I saw it. "Oliver!" does not have a fraction of the following that "Romeo & Juliet" (1968) has.

"Chariots of Fire" over "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "On Golden Pond" still puzzles people. The winner had scarcely been shown in theaters. Only after it won was it released to more theaters. I can't recall the last time I saw "Chariots of Fire" aired anywhere. Sometimes, I think the voters chose the film they believe is somehow more honorable, something heavily serious. So many years, this has happened.

I'm prejudiced toward the LOTR trilogy. This was a magnificent achievement! All three films should have been Best Picture, not just the final one in Hollywood's rush to finally honor this remarkable set of films.

I'd have to do more research for others, but there have been many bad calls throughout Oscar's history.

-Crash winning best picture over Brokeback Mountain.

- Some insipid love song (whose name I can't even recall anymore) from Lord of the Rings winning best song simply because the movie was winning everything it was up for that year

- Whoopi Goldberg for Ghost.

Best Song from Hustle and Flow..

"It's getting hard out here for a pimp"-who would've ever thought that the song would be appropriate for an Oscar. Good movie but song, uh, no...

Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) over, Laura Linney (You Can Count on Me), and Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream).
Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves) over Martin Scorsese (GoodFellas)
Martin Scorsese (The Departed) over any of the other nominees.

There have been PLENTY of them.. but I'll choose one from each major category...

Best Supporting Actress -
Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) over Vanessa Redgrave (Howards End) or Judy Davis (Husbands and Wives)
- Dont get me wrong.. My Cousin Vinny is HILARIOUS and a classic, but I don't think it's an Oscar performance.

(Close second - Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) - I was pulling for Abigial Breslin)

Best Supporting Actor - Tommy Lee Jones (Fugitive) over Leonardo DiCaprio (Gilbert Grape)

Best Actress - Liza Minnelli (Cabaret) over Cicely Tyson (Sounder)

Best Actor - Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night) over Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate)

Best Director - Robert Benton (Kramer vs. Kramer) over Francis Ford Coppola (Apocolyse Now)

Best Movie - Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan

(Close second - The Greatest Show on Earth over any of the other 4 films. I read once that The Greatest Show on Earth is the Worse Best Picture ever)

Interesting fact: Of the 79 Best Pictures, the director of the best film won the Best Director 58 times.

Titanic beat L.A. Confidential (1998)

Julia Roberts for "Erin Brockovich" over Ellen Burstyn for "Requiem for a Dream" (2001)

Steven Soderbergh "Traffic" over Ridley Scott "Gladiator"

Anthony Hopkins "Silence of the Lambs" over Robert DeNiro for "Cape Fear" (1992). Hopkins was on-screen for less than twenty minutes. Great performance, no doubt, but I thought RDN was better.

Jack Palance for "City Slickers" over Tommy Lee Jones for "JFK"

I also thought Paul Giamatti should've won for "Cinderella Man." After being overlooked for "Sideways", I thought it was his.
