Well, forget IMDb, which has ratings by users which are heavily skewed toward recent movies, violence, and T&A because a disproportionate number of the voters are teenage guys.
You probably want a review site like Roger Ebert's or Raymond Wong's. Both are thoughtful, look at many aspects of each film, and deem it worth your time or not.

Personally I use Netflix.com. Besides having reviews written by the members, they also have many comments by the professional critics, including Roger Ebert, with star ratings and pointers to the original published articles. The member reviews do vary and sometimes you can get a decent opinion from interpretation.
