yeah its Raiders of the Lost Ark. But there is a repeat scene in Temple of Doom where Indy rolls his eyes in a "here we go again" sort of way, reaches for his gun, but it jams or is empty

Classic scene from a classic film, Raiders. The story goes that in the scene as written, Indy was supposed to use his whip to knock the sword from the guy's hand, but Harrison Ford was too tired after a long day's shooting. I recall that Spielberg didn't want Indy to be so casual about killing a man, but they went ahead, and the rest is history.
In the sequel he reaches for his gun but it'd gone missing.. so they have the original whip-versus-sword fight that was cut from the original film.... the poor stunt man had practised for a month, then they cut shooting the scene through lack of time... "lets shoot the guy instead" as stopgap which became one of the most remembered scenes of the movie.
PS They were in the Egyptian desert close to Cairo (actually filmed in Tunisia)... Istanbul (Constantinople) was the Grail one.

As mentioned by another, Ford was ill with dysentery (sp?) and didnt feel he could do the elaborate fight scene, so he had it changed to just shooting the swordsman. Great moment in movies.
